Operation Christmas Child
It’s that time of the year again! Well.. I’m hoping it is but with the year we have had, who knows for sure! But traditionally, this is the time of the year where we start thinking about the holidays. Although this holiday season may be a little different, there are two things we can count on: 1.) We will all shop for loved ones 2.) God’s love is everlasting and we are called to spread his word. So since we will be shopping this season and want to spread God’s love, why not do both together and build a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child!? I know you are thinking “How is stuffing a shoebox spreading God’s word?” Let me tell you: We are sending more than toys...We are sending Jesus in a shoebox!
The children who are receiving these shoeboxes are being taught about Christ’s love and they are experiencing the love of Christians. These shoeboxes are life changing to many children. How would you feel if you knew that your shoebox was apart of the reason a child accepted Christ in their heart?
For those who have never packed a shoebox, it’s super simple! At the back of the sanctuary, there are boxes and a sign up sheet. Before you sign up and write down how many boxes you want to pack, stop and Pray. Pray for the children who’s lives will be touched by these boxes. Pray for Operation Christmas Child and that this epidemic will not stop it from being the most successful year.
Once you decide how many boxes you wish to pack, decide on which age and gender you’re shopping for. There are tons of things you can buy (except candy and toothpaste unfortunately) that any child would love! Toys, hygiene items, wash clothes, educational supplies, hair accessories, crafts, shirts, and flip flops are just some of the many ideas! Then head to the store and shop. Before you shop, take a moment to Pray. Pray for a positive shopping experience and for God to give you direction and answers to some decisions you will have to make.
Once you purchase your items, pack them in the shoebox. Be sure to fill the shoeboxes all the way up but remember they have to close all the way down . Don’t forget to put your label on the outside indicating what age and gender the box is for. Also, be sure to include the $9.00 for shipping per box. I know $9.00 is a lot (especially with multiple boxes) but it is used to pay for many things such as gas for the trucks to take the boxes to the drop off locations and money to charter a boat to drop off boxes. Once you pack your boxes, bring them to the church no later than November 15, 2020. When you drop off your box, remember to stop and Pray. Pray for the hands these shoe boxes will go through until it finally reaches its destination. Pray for the safety for the volunteers and staff. Also pray that whoever receives this box will experience the love of Jesus Christ.
Last year, we collected 65 boxes! That was awesome!! Let’s do it again but this time, let’s aim higher! FCC, can we do 75 boxes!? I think we can! Let’s remember something good about 2020 and make it our biggest Operation Christmas Child collection yet!
